“When there are vast changes in the way the world goes, it's usually something like art and music that changes it. Music is going to change the world next time.”

GHCDS Parents and Students,

I am so excited to be your music teacher for a second year! Last year was incredibly fun and fulfilling, and the warm welcome to the community has made me feel that this place is home. As with last year, here are my expectations for class, with more being outlined on our first days!

Expectations for Class:

  • 5th/6th Band: Families are expected to purchase/rent their own instruments (few exceptions), and should be brought everyday.*

  • 4th Graders: Please bring a 3 ring binder to class by next week! We will be using these for our recorder units!

  • Sneakers for class! There will be a lot of movement activities, so wear appropriate footwear.

  • Explicit Music Policy: During classes, students may be asked to choose music to play aloud. While I understand students and parents may listen to lyrically explicit music in their own home, some selections may not be appropriate for a lower school classroom. Not all selections will be allowed as a result.

  • Being able to listen and interact with music both at home and in the classroom is very important. Please reach out to me if you may have concerns about this, and how I may be able to help.

After last year’s successes, this year will bring a more streamlined curriculum and begin the re-implementation of Keyboard Percussion Instruments and Recorders! I can’t wait to share more music with you and your families, and continue to watch your students grow!

August 2025

Dear Panther Families,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year!  The Physical Education department has been hard at work designing a curriculum to best suit your child’s needs. We will be engaging in activities such as swimming, fundamental movements, games utilizing cooperation and good sportsmanship, and a lot of cardio based activities.

To ensure the safety of your child and his/her ability to participate in our program, we are requiring the following attire:

Physical Education:

  • Sneakers-with rubber soles and laces/Velcro (No crocs, please)

  • T-shirt and shorts (Grades N-3)

  • P.E. uniform shirt (Grades 4-6)-Students may either wear his/her uniform shirt to school, or change at snack or lunch, depending on daily class schedules. Students may choose his/her own shorts or athletic pants, understanding that they may not have snaps and zippers for safety reasons. Comfort, a good fit for high performance (not too loose or too tight) and adequate coverage for all of our activities should be the standard for choosing shorts or athletic pants.

  • Water jug

  • Caps are helpful and encouraged for sun protection.

Swimming:

  • Swimsuit

  • Change of clothes (quick and easy for changing, not snug or a lot of buttons)

  • Towel

  • *Sandals with heel straps are helpful but not required

  • *Goggles are helpful but not required

In the event of an illness or injury that does not allow your child to participate, a note from you will ensure an excused absence.  If the illness or injury requires an extended period without participation, a note from a doctor will be required.  Please feel free to contact us during the year with any questions or concerns.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Jacob Anderson-Grades N-6

Hello from the Lower School Art room!!

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year at GHCDS!  My name is Joeana Dongar and I am absolutely delighted to be the lower school visual Art Teacher. I look forward to a colorful school year where we will explore a wide range of different artists, art styles, and art mediums. Each artist will learn to use the elements of art and design to express themselves. My goal is that the artist will become comfortable creating, as well as speaking about their works, and begin to foster a deep passion for art.

I also would like to introduce our young artists to Artsonia, an online platform and social network that focuses on promoting and celebrating student masterpieces.

The art room can always use help and support from the GHCDS community. We are looking for donations of materials, including magazines, newspapers, paper towel rolls, egg cartons and styrofoam packing materials to upcycle into works of art!

I am looking forward to creating with your scholars!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at jrdongar@ghcds.org
