Social Studies, Global Perspective, & Science Curriculum Overview

Social Studies/Global Perspectives & Science Curriculums

Naturally embedded in any academic curriculum are community building themes. In all subjects we integrate character, values, respect for self and others, and the responsibility children have as members of the community. We also focus on social justice, community events such as AgFair, and the culture of our island.

In addition to that, we are continuing to implement Cambridge’s Global Perspectives framework. “Cambridge Primary Global Perspectives develops transferable skills that support learners in their studies and in their everyday life. Learners develop skills through age-appropriate and engaging activities that are based on a broad range of topics. They explore personal, local and global perspectives to make sense of, and feel connected to, the world around them.” We will focus on three main Global Perspectives Challenges this year.

For Science this year we will be using Mystery Science, a hands-on and interactive Curriculum, which goes hand-in-hand with both Next Generation Science Standards & Cambridge Science framework. The Science Units are as follows:

  • Fossils & Changing Environments

  • Life Cycles

  • Heredity, Survival, & Selection

  • Weather & Climate

  • Forces, Motion, & Magnets
